In 1875, the first school was started by Professor Willis. It was called “Cottonwood” and started as a log cabin, but was soon moved to a frame building. As the town continued to grow with time, the frame school was replaced by a two-story structure. In 1885, the school became Bryson Academy with the first instructors being J.T. Lippard and C.B. Hickam. In 1905, a new two story frame building was built in the same spot that the most recent previous school was. This building lasted until 1925 when a new brick building was built for both elementary and high school. In 1938, a new high school and a gymnasium was built. In 1957, a new elementary school building was built and the old brick building was turned into an ag shop. In the summer of 2012, the elementary building  was torn down and in its place, a new school was raised. A new practice gymnasium was also built next to the competition gymnasium that was built in 1996. A new track was also built. Construction is still underway on the fieldhouse.

Bryson's School History

From 1927 to 1930, the Keyser, Plaster, Mountain Home, and Finis schools were consolidated with Bryson. On June 1, 1946, the Jermyn school district was also consolidated.

During the 1950s, Bryson had a marching band and played eleven man football. In later years when enrollment dropped, the football team was reduced to six man.

Nowadays, the school is named Bryson ISD and there is no longer a marching band. However, the school does offer FFA, FCCLA, PALs, One Act Play, volleyball, football, basketball, baseball, track, softball, and art.
